What support does my school division offer for National Board Certification?
The answer to this question is constantly changing along with school division priorities and budgets. SEVA recommends you contact your school division administration for more information to determine what is offered by your school division specifically. Examples of support offered by local school divisions in the past range from professional leave days and assistance with technology and videography to stipends or tuition reimbursement to support candidates with fees and recognize the accomplishment of NBCTs.
Do I have to be an NBCT to join SEVA?
No. SEVA offers Affiliate Membership for individuals who have not achieved NBCT status or do not live or work in VDOE Region 2.

What is a PLF?
A PLF is a "Professional Learning Facilitator," previously referred to as a "Candidate Support Provider." The NBPTS uses this term to refer to those individuals who provide coaching, mentorship, and guidance to candidates during their certification process. PLFs are typically NBCTs themselves, but non-NBCT PLFs may include school division personnel responsible for supporting candidates in their school division. Many SEVA members are trained PLFs and volunteer their time to work with candidates at conferences and other events. SEVA maintains high expectations for PLFs to support candidate through ethical practices that preserve the integrity of the certification process.
